The New Jersey Institute of Technology SAE AERO Design Team takes on the challenge of designing, constructing, and flying a payload-carrying aircraft each year. The team competes in the annual SAE AERO Design East Competition held in either Lakeland, FL or Fort Worth, TX.
Competition is a 3-day event in which the team presents the design to a panel of Lockheed Martin engineers and participates in multiple flight rounds with more than 70 other entries from domestic and international universities.
Members of the team are provided with the opportunity to develop their aerospace knowledge through aircraft research and testing while applying their classroom knowledge to real-world use as they progress through the project timeline.
Who WE ARE
The AERO Design Team is comprised of current NJIT students. We exclusively utilize the NJIT Makerspace for the construction of the aircraft, including laser cutters, 3D printers, water jets, and lathes. During the 2020-2021 competition season, the team has worked to construct a flight-worthy aircraft prototype capable of carrying 12 soccer balls in flight.
OUR GOAL
The team’s goal for this coming season is to refine the aircraft design for the 2022 SAE AERO Design Competition.
With your support we will be able to realize our goal and provide the new members with a strong foundation upon which they can build.
