On Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving back, the Highlander community will come together to fight campus hunger by supporting the NJIT Food Pantry.
The first $5,000 raised in support of the NJIT Food Pantry will be doubled thanks to a generous match from Mary Ann and Peter A. Cistaro ’68. Your gift of any size will now go twice as far.
It’s no secret that earning a degree from NJIT can be challenging, even under the best of circumstances. But hundreds of hard-working students each year are striving to achieve their dreams while also struggling with food insecurity – lacking consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. Perhaps they have to choose between buying books and buying food, perhaps between paying rent and buying food. Or perhaps they are even considering leaving NJIT altogether.
That’s where the NJIT Food Pantry comes in. Opened in 2019 and available to all NJIT community members who may have trouble affording or accessing a healthy diet, the Food Pantry has served several hundred students, including close to 300 in the 2021-2022 academic year alone. This academic year the pantry has already had over 600 visits.
Food insecurity exists everywhere, and college campuses are not immune. Recent studies have shown that almost half of college students experience some type of food insecurity, with more than one in five qualifying as “hungry” due to low levels of meal stability.
But you can help. Today, on Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving back, you can make a gift to fight campus hunger by supporting the NJIT Food Pantry. And, thanks to a generous match
from Mary Ann and Peter A. Cistaro ’68, the first $5,000 donated to the Food Pantry today will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
Your gift of any size today will make a difference for hard-working students in need. Thank you!
