The Angelo J. Perna Process Lab at NJIT

Dr. Angelo Perna was a Professor of Chemical Engineering, serving as educator, researcher and mentor at NJIT for more than 50 years. Among his recent duties, Dr. Perna served as Director of the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program and advisor to the chemical engineering honor society, Omega Chi Epsilon. He served for many years as the advisor to the Student Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and taught many courses to undergraduate and graduate students.

Dr. Perna was widely recognized in the chemical engineering field. A Fellow of AIChE, he was highly active in this professional society and was the recipient of its highest service awards. He earned the distinction of a Lifetime of Service to AIChE, presented to him in February 2020. Prior to this, he was the recipient of the AIChE’s Shining Star Award (2015), recognizing significant contributions and exceptional volunteerism.

The Dr. Angelo J. Perna Process Lab was established in memory of Dr. Perna shortly after his passing on July 1, 2020 after a long illness. It was always his passion to ensure that NJIT students were extremely well-prepared to enter the workforce upon graduating from NCE. Simply put, there is no better way to celebrate his dedication to the students he taught and the university that was so beloved to him than with a gift in support of this lab.

Your support makes an impact

Dr. Perna was a highly regarded professor – by peers and students alike – however, it was his intellect and the strides he made in the Chemical Engineering field that embodies the best of what NJIT has to offer.

By offering your support today you will allow NJIT to continue to play an essential and valuable role as an institution of learning for the chemical engineers of tomorrow.
